Wine Bars - pop-and-glue-glue rhythm

Little did I know how popular wine bars would become when I inversely announced the nascent death of the pub in my weekly column in 2001.

Of course, most people new to wine in Malta are still going through certain rites of passage.  Many are - for the time being at least - happy to drink insipid imported sweet roses. Alas, few are seen enjoying more interesting wines. And, neither are Maltese wines being consumed as if they are about to run out before any waiter can pull a fast one. At least, wine consumption has risen. Part of it is down to the sprouting of new wine bars in Malta and Gozo. They are taking over from pubs. Yes, the pop-and-glue-glue rhythm of the wine pour is edging out the sluggish hiss of the pint pump.#

Places where wine takes centre stage

Go with the pour!

Malta's wine culture is flourishing. Apart from savouring Maltese wines at celebratory events, why not uncork a bottle at one of Malta's favourite wine bars and restaurants where wine takes centre stage. #
